Just an observation -
In Genesis 41:54-46:1 we read how famine brought Israel (at that time a family of about seventy people) to Egypt where there was food to keep them alive. But it was never God's plan that they remain there (Gen.46:4). However,
They became comfortable living there in the land of Goshen (in Egypt).
They came to feel like Goshen was THEIR land!
They came to enjoy the "good life" with what living in Egypt offered.
They lost sight of the transiency of their visit to Egypt (which should have been merely a pilgrimage).
They lost sight of the promises and eventually lost the vision of the promised land.
They became satisfied with where they were.
If only they knew what better things God had in store for them !

In Exodus we see a demonstration of God's redemptive plan -
It starts with the human soul in trouble (slavery to sin)
God sees man's trouble.
God has compassion on mankind.
God sends a deliverer.
God reconciles - via a substitutionary payment of the penalty for man's sin
God delivers the people out of their bondage and into a new life
Ponder this...
Remember that it took just one night to get Israel out of Egypt, but it took 40 years to get "Egypt" out of the people of Israel.
Another observation-
It seems that in Genesis we see the focus being on individual people. In Exodus we seem to see the focus being on the nation of Israel, the people group as a whole.
