There is a view about the sovereignty of God held by MANY Christians with which we find disagreement. Their view is that God has planned EVERYTHING and thus EVERYTHING happens according to God’s pre-determined plan/design/purpose. We at BibleTruthForToday DO in fact believe in God’s sovereignty, but not that way. We encourage you to think logically through your belief. If God did indeed plan EVERYTHING, He planned for Adam and Eve to sin! And every other bad thing that anyone has EVER done, God in fact did it! Really? Without taking that line of thinking any further…. We believe that God’s sovereignty is that in spite of the willful actions of man!, God, Who knows all things, is able to do exactly what we are taught in Romans 8:28 – He is able to work all things together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purposes (i.e. that are doing His will!). That is the miraculous power of God. To be able to take the sinful and wicked thoughts and deeds of men and turn them into victories for God and His children! This is very likely a poor example, but: If a man gets drunk, drives his car and kills an “innocent” victim, it is our believe that God cannot be charged with that crime – the man chose to get drunk, chose to drive while intoxicated, etc. Our belief in God’s sovereignty is such that God is able to bring good out of all that bad – not that God prescribed that it should/would happen, but that in His perfect knowledge that it WOULD happen, He brings about something that accomplishes His purposes. We may not always see or understand that in any given event, but that is where our faith trusts that what Romans 8:28 says is true even if we cannot see it at the time, or ever, for that matter. Another example. Very often we hear, when someone dies, that “it was his/her time to go”. Can we suggest that what the Scripture says is no more than this: that it is appointed that every man will die once! No more, no less. It is NOT appointed that John Doe will die at 8 p.m. on a given Thursday. It is very simply appointed by God that John Doe WILL die! And after his death comes judgment! Do not some Scriptures make reference to people who die/sleep “prematurely”? God IS sovereign! God DOES have a plan! His plan is NOT that you commit sin and do evil! His plan gets carried out in spite of our sinful decisions! That’s the wonder of His sovereignty – not that HE prescribed EVERYTHING that WOULD happen, but that in spite of man’s choices, He accomplishes His purposes! Praise God!!!
